New Feature: List-Unsubscribe Header

JangoMail has now incorporated the List-Unsubscribe Header into its feature set. This optional header became a part of the email specification a few years ago and Hotmail has supported it for a while. GMail just started supporting it last week and we expect other email clients to follow suit. This option offers email recipients a quick, easy and standard way to unsubscribe from emailings.

Overview:

The List-Unsubscribe Header option offers a standard way for users to unsubscribe from any email they receive. Email recipients may find it frustrating to figure out how to unsubscribe from a mailing, given the myriad of unsubscribe mechanisms that different email marketers use. This has led to distrust in using the sender's unsubscribe link that typically appears at the bottom of the email message. GMail and Hotmail have responded to this issue by adopting the List-Unsubscribe functionality into their user interfaces. Users can now use this as an alternative to using the Mark As Spam button, which punishes the sender by decreasing the sender's reputation.

Instructions:

This new feature will be turned on for all accounts on Wednesday, July 29. The feature can be turned off by following the instructions below. If you send email messages of a non-commercial nature where a recipient would never want to unsubscribe, then you may wish to turn this feature off.

1. Click on My Options and Settings in your JangoMail account
2. Under Reply Management, choose Unsubscribe Options
3. Find the Use List-Unsubscribe Header checkbox and uncheck it to turn the option off.

4. Save your preferences by clicking the Save Unsubscribe Options button.
