New Feature: Sending Email with Block-Resistant Images

Since the advent of spam filters, email marketers have been looking for a way to circumvent the image-blocking capabilites of most standard email programs, and ensure that the images in their electronic communications were not transformed into unsightly red x placeholders when opened by recipients. JangoMail has introduced an innovative solution to this problem: a new Embedded Images feature that allows users to easily convert HTML email images into Embedded Images and thereby ensure that their company logo and product images are instantly visible to recipients.

What are the advantages of Embedded Images?

Embedded images have a number of advantages. Not only do they do away with those pesky red x placeholders, but they ensure that your company logo and product images are visible to recipients--without their having to click on a link, and even if their computer if offline. This translates to improved brand recognition, higher email response rates and, ultimately, a better bottom line for your business.

How do I use the new feature?

To bypass image blocking, go to the Send Email page and scroll down to the Advanced Options section. Checking the box next to the newEmbed Images field will automatically convert the image references in your HTML email into encoded embedded images and insure that any images in your communication are instantly viewable by recipients using a desktop email program such as Outlook Express, Outlook, Windows Mail, and Thunderbird as well as by those using a Web-based email program such as Gmail.

Are there any disadvantages to using the Embedded Images feature??

Embedded Images do come with a couple of note-worthy caveats, including increased email size and excess bandwidth fees. Furthermore, your open tracking data may be skewed, since open tracking is often contingent upon a unique image being downloaded by the recipient’s email program.

Does the Embedded Images feature work with all ISPs and email programs??

The new feature is compatible with desktop email programs (Outlook, Outlook Express, Windows Mail, and Thunderbird) and Web-based email programs like Gmail. Yahoo, Hotmail and AOL users will continue to have to click on a link to view the images in their HTML emails for now, but hopefully we'll soon find a way around their image-blocking filters, too!

Can I use Embedded Images with the API?

Yes. To send emails with embedded images using the API, call the SendMassEmail method and set EmbedImages to "True" or "False" using the Options input parameter.
