JangoMail Launches DomainKeys/DKIM Implementation
We are thrilled to announce today the launch of JangoMail's support for two email authentication standards: DomainKeys and DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM). These technologies protect and validate a sender's identity and ensure that an email message has not been altered in transit from sender to recipient. Email providers like Yahoo! and GMail validate email messages based on these technologies and display a special note alongside email messages signed with DomainKeys and DKIM. JangoMail is one of the few email marketing companies to support both technologies.
What are DomainKeys and DKIM?
DomainKeys and DKIM are two email authentication standards, the former invented by Yahoo!, and the latter a combination of efforts by Yahoo! and Cisco. Both of these standards cryptographically sign an email message using a public/private key mechanism in such a way that a sending server can encrypt a message with a private key and a receiving server can decrypt the message using the public key. This ensures that it has not been tampered with in transit to the receiving server and ensures that it originated from the domain that is claimed in the From Address field.
How do I use DomainKeys and DKIM?
Beginning today, all email messages using a jangomail.com From Address will automatically be signed with DomainKeys and DKIM, so if you use a jangomail.com From Address, you don't need to do anything to take advantage of these technologies.
If you use a non-jangomail.com From Address, you will have to create a key pair for your domain under My Options --> DomainKeys/DKIM. JangoMail provides a web-based interface to conveniently manage your DomainKeys/DKIM settings, allowing you to create a public and private key pair and giving you the exact record you need to add to your Domain Name Server (DNS). More information about setting up your own domain can be found in our comprehensive document: DomainKeys and DKIM in JangoMail
How will DomainKeys and DKIM help my email deliverability?
Email messages signed with DomainKeys and DKIM are guaranteed to be unaltered in transit and from the claimed Sender. They are treated differently by receivers like Yahoo! Mail and GMail and will help with delivery to the Inbox. Here is how an email message signed with DomainKeys looks in Yahoo! Mail:
